§ 3.04.260. Overtime—Computation.

Latest version.
  • A.

Basis. Employees will be compensated for overtime based on quarter-hour increments, depending on the time worked.

    B.

Callback. When a nonexempt employee is called back for overtime work, all work performed shall be at the overtime rate. When recording overtime hours for all employees on callback overtime, employees shall be credited with a minimum of two hours overtime. All time worked in excess of the minimum will be credited to the nearest quarter hour. For shift personnel in the fire department, a distinction shall be made between overtime compensated in the event of emergency callback, and overtime compensated for staffing callback, as follows:

    1.

Callback for emergency situations will be compensated at the overtime rate (time and one-half) based on the 40-hour hourly rate.

    2.

Callback for purposes of staffing will be compensated at the overtime rate (time and one-half) based on the 56-hour hourly rate.

    C.

On-call pay. The city manager may promulgate, by administrative regulation, guidelines for the administration of the on-call pay policy for those services performed by the city that require the prompt availability of employees on an emergency basis.

    D.

Part-time employees. Overtime shall be paid to part time employees whenever their total hours worked exceeds the standard full-time workweek or the established work period.

    E.

Effect of paid leave. If a paid holiday or period of paid leave occurs during the standard workweek, or designated work period for police and fire department personnel, such time shall be counted as working time in determining eligibility for overtime.

    F.

Training. When training is required by the city for an employee, every effort will be made to arrange for the training during an employee's regularly scheduled work hours. Should training time result in overtime, prior authorization by the executive director or designee must be obtained. However, an executive director may change an employee's normal work hours to accommodate the training schedule.

    G.

Pyramiding. Compensation shall not be made more than once for the same hours under any provision of the personnel rules or other applicable regulations.
