§ 3.04.390. Transfer and promotion.

    When a job vacancy is announced, any city employee may apply for transfer or for promotion to the position; providing, the employee meets any established qualifications for such position. All such qualified applicants will be assured consideration although no city employee is assured of selection. If the employee successfully applies for transfer or promotion during the employee's original probationary period, the employee shall undergo a new and separate probationary period in the new position.

    B.

    Any employee promoted within a designated career series in the police or fire department shall be subject to provisional status for a period of one year. If, at any time before the end of the period of provisional status, the executive director or designee, in his or her sole discretion, determines that the employee does not meet the required standards for the position, the employee may be removed from the position and reinstated to a position in the class occupied by the employee immediately prior to the promotion. During provisional status, the employee shall have no rights to continue in the same position, and any employee removed from a position while on provisional status shall not be entitled to rights of appeal as defined by these rules.

    C.

    The city manager may, for the good of the service, transfer an employee within a department or division or to a different division or department within the city.
